Writers Studio at Arapahoe Community College Hosts Iversen Reading

The Writers Studio at Arapahoe Community College will host a reception, reading, talk back, and book signing with Kristen Iversen, author of Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of the Rocky Flats, on Wednesday, February 25 starting at 6:30p.m.

Described as a "haunting work of narrative nonfiction" and "a brilliant work of investigative journalism," Full Body Burden has been praised by The New York Times as "Intimate…Powerful…A potent examination of the dangers of secrecy…A serious and alarming book [that] has its share of charming moments."
Full Body Burden is a nonfiction narrative that weaves together Kristen Iversen’s childhood in a small Colorado town close to Rocky Flats, a secret nuclear weapons plant once designated "the most contaminated site in America," with "a detailed and shocking account of the government’s sustained attempt to conceal the effects of the toxic and radioactive waste released by Rocky Flats, and of local residents’ vain attempts to seek justice in court."

This book is the result of eleven years of daunting research into the political, historical and technological intrigue that has had lasting effects on national and state policy-making. And on the well-being of many of our Colorado neighbors. Kristen’s talk back will be about "The Art of Research," geared especially toward the professional and student writer.
Many universities have chosen Full Body Burden for their First Year Experience/ Common Read Programs, including Virginia Commonwealth University, St. Bonaventure University, Fort Lewis College, California State University at Sacramento, Madison Community College, and Michigan Tech University. Kristen is an engaging and passionate writer and speaker. We’re lucky to have her.

Come join us on the 25th.
