BWA October 2 Program: Creating, Marketing, and Distributing eBooks

With traditional book publishing in flux and eBooks becoming more popular, authors have increasingly taken the publishing process into their own hands. The October 2012 BWA program will provide information on the entire process of self-publishing eBooks–from production and using common software tools, to marketing and distribution. Two speakers, Dan Logan, who is a product manager at Quark Software Inc., and David Dvorkin, self-published author and owner of an eBooks self-publishing business, will address these topics.

Dan Logan, QuarkXPress product manager at Quark Software Inc. in Denver, CO, will discuss the technology side of creating eBooks. As authors will discover, there are many differences between creating an eBook and creating a book for print. Dan will cover the criteria authors should consider as they approach laying out an eBook, as well as provide a brief overview of the types of solutions that exist. In a step-by-step demonstration, Dan will also show authors how to use the Reflow View in QuarkXPress 9 to produce eBooks for ePUB (Apple iBooks, Nook) and the Kindle. Whether starting from scratch or from content laid out for print, authors will leave with an understanding of how they can approach creating their eBooks.

David Dvorkin will talk about the online publishing platforms he uses to publish his books as print and eBook editions, including those platforms’ requirements. He will also discuss marketing and cover design.

Attend this program for a quick overview of what you need to know about self-publishing eBooks.

He is now a strong advocate of self-publishing. A full-time writer, David and his wife, Leonore Dvorkin, are the proprietors of a full service self-publishing business that provides editing, cover creation, and technical assistance to other authors.
