Speak Peace: Colorado Responds Poetry and Art contest

by

Speak Peace: Colorado Responds Invites Your Poetry or Artwork Submission for a special Colorado Contest around the Speak Peace exhibit hosted by Arapahoe Community College from October 17-November 13.

Speak Peace: American Voices Respond to Vietnamese Children’s Paintings (http://www.speakpeace.net/) is a collaborative, international project between Kent State’s Wick Poetry Center and School of Art Galleries, and Soldiers’ Heart, a veterans’ return and healing organization. The exhibit features original poems written by American children, veterans, and established poets in response to Vietnamese children’s paintings on peace and war collected over the last 10 years by the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

As part of the exhibition, ACC is hosting a Speak Peace: Colorado Responds art and poetry contest for all Colorado residents, regardless of age. We are looking for poems and art work that respond to the pictures and poems from the Speak Peace exhibit, online at
http://www.speakpeace.net/TravelingExhibit.aspx.

ACC is offering a first prize ($200), second prize ($150) and third prize ($100) and seven honorable mentions in both the poetry and art categories. A reception for prize winners and honorable mentions will be held on October 26 from 5p.m.-7p.m. at the Colorado Gallery of Arts where winning poems and digital representations of the winning artwork will be presented to the public.
