SouthWestWriters to Judge 2011 Colorado Authors’ League Awards – Deadline for entry: January 31, 2011

SouthWestWriters (southwestwriters.com) has officially agreed to judge the Colorado Authors’ League (CAL) Awards entries for 2011. “This year, CAL’s best work will be judged by an independent group of professional writers who are our peers. SWW brings an unparalleled level of professionalism to the CAL awards,” says contest chair Bruce Most.

Not a CAL member? “You owe it to yourself to join now,” Most says. “This is going to be one exciting contest!” CAL welcomes published authors only. Membership details and contest information are at ColoradoAuthors.org.

Established in 1931 to “foster the art and craft of authorship,” the Colorado Authors’ League is comprised of more than 250 professional writers, including authors of adult fiction and nonfiction, magazine journalists, children’s book writers, playwrights, and poets. CAL’s monthly luncheons host writers and speakers offering insights on a variety of topics. The annual gala awards banquet in May always features a well-known author as speaker, and the presentation of prestigious CAL Awards honoring CAL’s outstanding writers in a variety of categories. CAL also sponsors writing seminars and scholarships.

SWW is a 600-member group of published and unpublished writers based in Albuquerque but with members around the country and around the world. Their published writers will do the judging (SWW conducts its own unpublished writing contest).

CAL awards cover the gamut of writing reflected in our organization’s broad membership—articles, short stories, essays, poetry, and specialty writing, as well as fiction and nonfiction books for adults and youth.
New Deadline – January 31, 2011
The entry deadline has been moved up an entire month, from the end of February to January 31.

Go to ColoradoAuthors.org, read over the rules, look through the categories, and pick which of your published work you believe would make a fine CAL finalist or winner. And if you’re not a member of CAL, join!
