PROGRAM: Detective Chuck Heidel has been with the Boulder Police Department for 25 years. His first Boulder murder case was the rape and bludgeoning death of 23-year-old Susannah Chase in 1997. This case was solved and the murderer was arrested in 2008 with a DNA match as a result of Chuck’s persistent work on the case. Chuck has also been involved recently in working with the FBI to track down malicious hacking into a Boulder synagogue’s web site that was traced to Pakistan.

His presentation will describe the Tantra Rapist case, another incredible story of persistence that covered matching similar MOs from rapes in Boulder, Lakewood and Austin, Texas; utilizing the Accurint Database to find men who had lived in the three locations at the time of the rapes; eliminating hundreds of potential suspects; matching the DNA of the final suspect; and making the arrest 11 years after the first reported rape. You will hear the surprising end of the story on who the rapist was and what happened to him.
